This book was published in 1987 so the stats and income levels are dated, but obviously a lot is still the same. Sidel focuses on poor women and children primarily and is careful to point out how close all women and children are to poverty (What would be your household income if your partner died/left/lost their job?). She covers topics like welfare, daycare, and jobs to show how America treats women with children.
Special shout out to Reagan’s dumbass for his contributions to welfare shame, the war on drugs, and just for his general terrible existence.
