This is a very quaint food novel. It’s quick and clear and funny and smart and real. The narrator is a cookbook writer who is seven months pregnant with her second child. But right in the beginning, the thing that is happening to her which inspires the book to be written, is that she finds out her husband is in love with someone else. She tears away and moves back to NYC from Washington. He comes back for her. She goes back. But the whole incident has already changed everything. She could stick it out, as many people decide to do, but would she ever be happy again with him? Probably not.
“I want her to die. I want him to die, too.”
“I thought you said you wanted him back,” said Ellis.
“I do,” I said. “But I want him back dead.”
