Blogs & Books & Half Off

Posted by Rachel Wagner on

The three books I have out right now were all mostly written around the same time. I was keeping a blog on my personal site a little while back. I think I was just sick of the publishing world and trying to get my stuff out the new-traditional way via online magazines and twitter. I don't remember my exact intention, but I think I started with the men I was meeting. Then I also added a few posts about fashion or just life. Actually one of them got picked up by a magazine lol. That editor found the piece on her...

50% off All Fiction Titles Cuz I Like Fiction

I used to love fiction best. I wanted to write it and read it almost exclusively. That's what I was studying in college too. Well, mostly you'd read a work of fiction, then you'd read a bunch of non-fiction about that fictional piece. Then you'd write your own non-fiction piece on all of those texts. It was fun. I got more into non-fiction after graduation, tho. I don't know what switched things over really, but I started to prefer reading real stories. Essays, memoirs, whatever. I liked to know what really went on and how that one person is responding...

I know people just bought a bunch of stuff for Christmas, but this is a good time to start a new book. The year is transitioning, the holiday season is almost over, and the winter is really starting. Shipping is free on everything on the site right now and up until New Years Day. If you don't know where to start, you can check out my top picks here: Top Picks. Right now, I'm rereading The Idiot by Elif Batuman, and it is so good. Her prose are so easy to read. You don't want the book to end. The...

Used Books, Bought and Borrowed

I think it was when library holds stopped at the university I was working at that I realized coronavirus was not playing around. I had luckily grabbed a stack of books from the front desk in that final week when everything seemed dark and gloomy, and people were wearing gloves and no masks. When I got through those books tho I had to find some way to entertain myself. I turned to my own books and discovered jewels that were right in front of me having gone unread since meeting the shelf. I read Richard Wright and Edward Said and Tarek El-Ariss. I reread...

Journalism in a Book

Posted by Rachel Wagner on

Finished reading White Noise the other day. So good. I wrote about it on my personal blog if you're interested. Something I liked about that book specifically was that it was all journalism pieces. I hate reading online articles. Reading on a screen sucks and then there's also a million ads and subscription requests and all this other stuff in the way. Like do you want me to read this piece or not?? Having it printed out in a book is really nice because of the physical design of a book. There's no camera watching you, no statistics being taken on...
