So good that I read it in one day lol. Really easy to read, short chapters, a simple narrative voice. It’s about two sisters–Korede and Ayoola. Korede is the narrator. She’s a clean-freak, a good cook, head nurse at a hospital, and noticeably less physically striking than her sister. Ayoola is “the hot one” who designs clothes, doesn’t even pretend to want to cook or clean, and has a habit of killing her boyfriends. But Korede doesn’t judge. She’s always there to help her get rid of the body or prep her for a police interview or whatever else is appropriate for the situation. Surrounding these sisters’ loyalty to each other, however, is the haunting presence of their dead, abusive, terrible father, the truth potentially coming out and both being arrested, and the knowledge that Ayoola will keep killing.
Best line: “Who is to say that an object does not come with its own agenda? Or that the collective agenda of its previous owners does not direct its purpose still?”
