I love stories about singleness. And I had to get this anyway because I’ve read and loved all of Nagata Kabi‘s other books.
I read My Wandering Warrior Existence in one day. It was a karate day for my son and I knew I could whip through it. I ended up really finishing the last few pages while he played in the park after but it was good all around. I told this guy that the book was about a perpetually single girl–someone who’s not even dating (and never really has). And how she has to find out for herself what she’s doing. She has to still enjoy her life.
I think my favorite part ended up being the epilogue. Like after chapters of trying on wedding gowns and failing at dating online and wondering if she should have a baby one day and stuff like that, she’s like okay I have a few pages left to do whatever. So she talks about her new apartment, the plants she got, and the instrument she picked up. This is where she realizes that she can make a life for herself. Her hobbies are real and they take up space, and that is part of who she is. Those kinds of discoveries are the challenge and joy of living alone.
