I enjoyed this memoir. It's told through short memories connected to specific outfits. Ilene Beckerman also sketches the outfit on the other side. The drawings are really great. The details in the prose are good too. Everything is told in a matter of fact way. I wore this here, I borrowed this from a friend, my mother made this, this costed $40. Love, Loss, and What I Wore later inspired a play by the same name told in the voices of a few different women talking about love, loss, and what they wore. This story is just about Beckerman and tells a version of her life--school, losing her mom young, dating, marrying, remarrying, and having a granddaughter.
Best line: I don't remember the boy I went with or the prom, just the dress. -Ilene Beckerman p 89
